Our hotel near Leggett, CA is just 23 miles from this central Californian town, with some of the tallest trees in the world. The most famous site in Leggett is the Drive-Thru Tree Park, home to the Chandelier Tree, a 276-foot tall tree with a 6-foot wide hole cut through its base. Most vehicles, except large trucks and trailers, can fit through the Chandelier Tree!
One of the many smaller parks close to our hotel, Standish-Hickey State Recreation Area is a state-run preserve. This park is centered on a river canyon farther south along the Eel River that feeds into the Humboldt Redwoods State Park. There’s lots of great swimming for visitors of all ages here, between beautiful stone cliff faces off rocky beaches! Note that there are no lifeguards in the park, so swim at your own discretion.
Leggett is where the coastal California Route 1 and US 101 merge, bringing the highway away from the water and the Lost Coast, including Shelter Cove. As the meeting point of these two highways, Leggett is a great stop on any road trip through California. No car trip is complete without a photo of your car going through the famous drive-through tree.
After your photo op, head north to Garberville, to the heart of the redwoods and to our beautiful hotel! Simply follow Highway 101 30 minutes north, to the entryway to the Avenue of the Giants right near our hotel.
